Sgt. Nicholson's Biography

Sgt. Nicholson was born and raised in Front Royal Va. His career in Law Enforcement began at the Front Royal Police Department in 1989. Jim was President of his graduating class at the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy and received academic honors. During the years to follow, Jim was promoted to patrol supervisor. In 1996 Jim was promoted to the position of Investigator. In 1998 a new division was created and the position of Crime Prevention/Public Relations officer became available. Jim accepted the position and after hundreds of hours of specialized training, received the title of Crime Prevention Specialist through the Crime Prevention Association and the State of Virginia.

While employed with the Front Royal Police Department, Jim was certified as a General Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, advanced Firearms Instructor, and lead Driving Instructor. Thousands of new Police Officers have been trained by Jim at the Central Shenandoah Training Academy, and the Rappahannock Training academy.

  Jim has experience in many community programs such as, TRIAD, Neighborhood Watch, Project Lifesaver, Citizens Police Academy, and Youth Academy, Youth Advisory Council, Citizens Advisory Council, Top Cops and many others.  Jim also was a member of the Special Tactical Operations team which dealt with in school threats and community violence, and a member of the SWAT team.

 In Front Royal Jim was selected by the community as Police Office of the Year on two separate occasions, once in 1995 and again in 2003.

 In 2004, Jim moved to Page County. Sheriff Presgraves approached Jim to consider becoming a part of his professional team in 2005. After speaking to local citizens and observing the incredible transformation of the Page County Sheriff’s Office, there was no hesitation to where, and for whom Jim was going to be working for.

 Jim accepted the position and in 2006 was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, supervising the Crime Prevention Division, Public Relations, and the School Resource Officer Program.
