Deputy C. B. Sours and his K-9 Partner "Molly"

Molly, a purebred search and rescue bloodhound,
joined the Page County Sheriff's
Office in February, 2004. She came to Page County from Pulaski
County, Virginia, where her previous handler had been called for Army
National Guard service. She was purchased for the department at a cost
of $400 by Page County businessman, Jeff Vaughan of KVK Precision
Specialties, Inc.
Molly stays with her partner and handler, Deputy C.
B. Sours, 24 hours a day, and her training is an ongoing process. Molly and
Sours usually train in search and rescue operations 2 days a week,
and then participate in Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue (VBSAR)
training once a month. During these monthly training exercises, they
will go to different places and interact with other search and rescue
bloodhounds and their handlers.
Molly is a "man-trailing" bloodhound and follows
human scent only. She will go with the 'hottest' or most recent
scent. She also works with 'scent association' where a found
article can lead to a person. The article may be placed in a bag to
preserve the scent. The bag is then placed to Molly's nose for a few seconds
and she will track only that scent. She will work a trail until it ends
and will indicate that to Deputy Sours by jumping up on him or by jumping on
the person scented on. Sours
says, "She is a joy to work with." Molly is a valuable resource
for the department and is available to assist with search and rescue and
criminal investigations for other jurisdictions, as well.
Molly, along with the Page County Sheriff's Office,
wishes to thank the following businesses and organizations for helping
keep her in tip-top shape:
